When guest artist Jeff Antoniuk taught a Master Class for Ambrose Arts in November 2023 on entrepreneurship, he surprised some of our arts students with the statement that “all of the things you have to do now for school are the minimum requirements for your career.” Jeff described many of his own experiences as an artist entrepreneur. He shared some of the ways that he has navigated the complexities of the industry by learning to surround himself with people like a business consultant, advisors, and even an attorney who have helped him protect and communicate the value of his work, as well as identify opportunities for growing his craft, portfolio, and business. What does that mean for an emerging artist? Jeff urged students to be attentive to opportunities and experiences that will get or keep their career moving, today. The lesson he said that it took him 30 years to learn was that “you are in charge of your own career” and he left the students with homework to invest 30 minutes a day in reaching out and following up on the people, information, and roadmap needed to build a career while still a student. Ambrose Arts was also thrilled to have Jeff Antoniuk as our guest musician for our Jazz Concert on November 22 – thank you Jeff for investing your time beyond the concert into our students as they grow their craft into a career.
