Claudia Sasse, EdD
Biography
I love teaching! I began my teaching career in southern Brazil as an elementary school teacher in 1990. Since then, I have held various positions in the education field, including K-12 teacher, resource teacher, language specialist, school principal, and, most recently, assistant professor.
My experience spans several post-secondary institutions across Canada and abroad.
I am also fluent in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. I am passionate about language learning and cultural diversity, which is reflected in my teaching and research.
In my personal life, I am married to Ralph, and together we have a beautiful daughter, Caroline. We also have a lovable Shih Tzu/Maltese mixed dog named Freddie. I enjoy going for long walks, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. I am also actively involved in my church community initiatives.
Current Research and Scholarly Work
My research interests and current projects focus on international students, educational leadership, and student success. My doctoral research centered on leveraging academic support to promote the success of international students. Throughout my teaching career I have worked on a variety of projects and received several awards for my contributions.
In 2022, I was the recipient of a Scholarship Award for International Bilingual Students (English/Spanish) presented by Gonzaga University, Spokane, WA., USA. In 2023, I curated an Open Educational Resource called Pedagogical leadership for early learning educators. In 2024, I was honoured with the RoSA Award, Recognition of Scholarly Activity Award presented by Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP), recognizing my work on the OER project mentioned above.
