Biography
Julie Dykes is a PhD candidate in Christian Theology (Old Testament) through McMaster Divinity College. She has a BA in Biblical and Theological Studies with a minor in Communication Studies from Biola University and MAs in Old Testament and New Testament each from Denver Seminary. Through her studies, Julie has developed a passion for studying and teaching the Old Testament as a vital, enriching, and necessary part of Christian theology, especially by discussing the metaphors of Scripture. When not discussing the Bible, Julie enjoys spending time on her other favorite topics and hobbies, including reading, doing puzzles, playing video games, and going to the movies. Julie lives with her dog, Leia, whose name reflects Julie's love of all things Star Wars.
Current Research
Julie is in the process of completing her dissertation, which focuses on the use of metaphors that describe Yahweh as creator in Isaiah 40–55, particularly those that draw on builder and familial language. Once her dissertation is complete, she hopes to continue research on biblical metaphors, such as the divine mother imagery found in both the Old and New Testaments.
