Ambrose University offers students hundreds of awards so that students can succeed academically as well as financially. Understanding some general principles and policies is important.

Scholarships & Bursaries are available for application by all full time students. Students must be registered in full-time* studies (Undergraduate: 9 credits/semester, Seminary: 18 credits/Fall - May) at Ambrose University for the next academic year. Students who have been approved to study at a 40%-course load as a full time equivalent based on a disability will be considered for full time awards. (See Schedule 4: Federal/Provincial Grant for Post-secondary student with Disabilities) Students entering their final year who do not have enough courses to meet the minimum semester hour requirements are eligible to apply.

All students who demonstrate financial need (tuition, books, living costs, etc.) are encouraged to apply for financial assistance where an assessment (aligned with Student Aid Alberta assessment) happens and bursaries and assistance awarded as need is demonstrated. A student's level of eligibility for assistance may be affected by other scholarships received.

  • Bursary shall mean a monetary grant given to a student based on assessed financial need.

Award Policies

Undergraduate awards are distributed equitably among students and adhere to the terms of reference.

  1. If a student is granted an award, Ambrose University reserves the right to release pertinent recipient information to award donors, high schools, provincial funding bodies, Ambrose university faculty and administrative offices and public news agents while observing PIPA regulations. Specific information may be used by the university for promotional purposes.
  2. Scholarships and other student awards granted for achievement in a specific faculty or discipline or intended for students studying in a particular program are normally conditional upon the recipient continuing studies in the same discipline or program during the following reassignment of the award to another student. Award recipients who no longer meet the program/registration/course load requirements, due to extenuating circumstances, can contact the Financial Aid & Awards Office directly by email: financialaid@ambrose.edu.
  3. Ambrose students will not receive Ambrose financial awards (scholarships, bursaries or other) exceeding their semester tuition and mandatory fees[1] in which the award is given.
  4. Students who are eligible and receive Tuition Remission, are eligible to apply for Ambrose financial awards. Should a student receive a financial award, Tuition Remission will be applied to remaining tuition. Financial aid awards include Ambrose scholarships (merit based) and bursaries (financial need based).
  5. Significant merit awards are decided by the Awards Selection Committee. Bursary awards require a financial assistance application to determine financial need. Bursaries are determined and approved by the Financial Aid Office.
  6. Ambrose awards are:

Eligibility

  1. Students must apply each year to determine eligibility for Ambrose University awards. Ambrose awards cannot be deferred from one year to the next year.
  2. Students much achieve a minimum 2.00 GPA to receive their awards. Awards will be removed if these requirements are not met. Students on academic probation are not eligible for institutional awards or students with incomplete grades are not considered for awards. Ambrose Continuing Student Scholarships are based on the cumulative GPA at the conclusion of the fall semester.
  3. Students who receive the Christian High School Scholarship will not be eligible for the General Entrance Scholarship, Church Servant Leadership Scholarship or Presidential Scholarship. Ambrose reserves the right to not offer additional financial aid, scholarships or bursaries to any student who receives the Church Servant Leadership Scholarship. Presidential Scholarship recipients and Master of Divinity Finish Free Scholarship recipients are not eligible for further Ambrose awards.

Payment of Awards

  1. If you are selected for an award, you will be notified by an electronic letter sent to your Ambrose email account or if unassigned yet, your submitted email account, prior to starting classes in the fall or winter accordingly.
  2. Student awards issued by the University are applied to tuition and to other student fees owing. If the amount of the student award is greater than the fees, the excess remains in the student account for the next semester.
  3. Ambrose entrance awards are distributed 50% for the fall semester and 50% for the winter semester.
  4. All Continuing Student Scholarships and Financial Aid Bursaries are credited to student accounts in the full amount during the fall semester after the add/drop date.
  5. Students may not be able to view the award(s) until after deposit processing. Students can subtract the award total from semester tuition and fees amount owed. Once Ambrose credentials (email and MyAmbrose profile) are established, awards can be accepted and viewed on the Financial Aid portal login. Please note that any Cost of Attendance is based upon a projected 30 credit/full course load and not your actual course registration.
  6. Award recipients who no longer meet the award criteria such as program/registration/course load requirements, should notify the Financial Aid & Awards Office. The award will be reversed and awarded to another eligible student.
  7. Endowed scholarships (Continuing and Entrance) will be applied to student accounts first. All other awards will be applied thereafter to the maximum as noted in above policy.

For the most current listing of awards and application dates, please see the List of Awards website pages.
