Renewals, Overdue Fines & Lost Books

  • All patrons are emailed a courtesy reminder two days before their books are due and again on the due date. However, it is always the patron's responsibility to return books on time, regardless of whether the courtesy reminder was received. If you are not receiving these automated reminders, please check your spam/junk folder!
  • Follow these instructions for renewing your books online. Overdue items or items on which a request has been placed may not be renewed.
  • Patrons are charged $1 per item per day overdue (except Ambrose Staff & Faculty). Payment can be made at the library Circulation Desk during open hours by cash, debit, or credit card. Payment by card requires a $5 minimum transaction.
  • All patrons are charged $5 per item per day overdue for recalled items which are requested by other patrons.
  • If you have lost a book, please contact the library as soon as possible. Patrons are responsible for the replacement cost of lost books as well as a $25 Lost Item Process Fee ($15 for Ambrose Staff & Faculty).
  • When a book has been overdue for 4 weeks, it is considered lost. Patrons then have a 2-week grace period to return the book, during which they will accumulate overdue fines as usual. After the grace period, patrons must pay for the lost book, as detailed above.

Requests

  • Ambrose Students, Staff & Faculty can request any Ambrose library book.
  • Ambrose Alumni can only request books currently available on the library’s shelves, so that current students and employees have priority use of library materials.
  • Requests on books available in the library will be filled as soon as possible depending on library staff availability. You will receive an email when your requested books are ready to be picked up. Please allow up to 48 hours for your requests to be filled.
  • Requests on books currently signed out to another patron trigger a Due Date Notification to the current user allowing them 7 days to return the book. Please allow up to 10 days for these requests to be made available to you.
  • Follow these instructions to request books online.

Course Reserves

  • Required and recommended readings for current classes are kept at the Circulation Desk and are available on a first-come-first-served basis for either two hours or two days.
  • Two-hour loans are tied to the library's open hours, so they may be checked out overnight and returned before the library opens the following morning.
  • Fines of $1 per book for each overdue hour are charged on overdue reserve materials.
  • Find out if the library has a book on reserve by following these instructions.

Research Assistance

Research assistance is available in person during library open hours, or by contacting us at library@ambrose.edu or (403) 410-2946.
