The Dog Days of Summer

Regular activity was paw-sed for a time at the university on June 13th to celebrate the annual Dogs’ Day of Summer event. Founded by president Gordon T Smith a number of years ago – and even moving online during the pandemic – it is very pup-ular with dog owners on staff. As Dr. Smith has noted in the past, “[Dogs’ Day] is surely the high point in the academic calendar for those who understand the place of dogs in the economy of the Creator”.

Fun with Fossils

Our ‘Introduction to Geology’ students got to go on a special field trip to explore the post-glacial geology of southern Alberta. Students studied the fossil environments and evidence in Drumheller and at the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology. Led by Dr. Stephen Jeans, Lecturer, Earth and Space Sciences, the trip was a return to the annual field tutorial that connects study of stratigraphy and planetology to the development of a deep time history of Earth.
